When you have a toothache, you go to a dentist. When you're tangled with the law, you go to a lawyer. When you want to learn how to successfully pull off a suicide bombing, you go to — anyone but this guy.
Perhaps it was a flair for the dramatic, but this particular Al Qaeda instructor thought the best way to effectively demonstrate his lesson on suicide bombing to his class of terrorists-in-training was with live explosives; if nothing else, he certainly made an impression. After accidentally detonating his device, twenty-two terrorist hopefuls were left dead — and many in Baghdad were left in stitches.
Iraq's collective chuckle is a response to the massive impact Al Qaeda has had on the country and its infrastructure, but one can argue the value in adding fuel to the fire. The Book of Islam is on their side, however:
Qur'an, 2:178: "O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution (Qasas) for those murdered – the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever overlooks from his brother anything, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him with good conduct. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment."
Well, we suppose Allah-sanctioned humor on this bungled irony wouldn't be the worst of our sins...
